{"id":813,"date":"2023-02-24T12:02:38","date_gmt":"2023-02-24T12:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mulberryschoolstrust.org\/stemacademy\/?p=813"},"modified":"2023-03-09T13:45:47","modified_gmt":"2023-03-09T13:45:47","slug":"year-10-students-learn-python-programming-with-geeky-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mulberryschoolstrust.org\/stemacademy\/year-10-students-learn-python-programming-with-geeky-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"Year 10 students learn Python programming with Geeky Kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\">\n<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0 x_x_ContentPasted1\">In January 2023, 60 Year 10 students from across the Mulberry Schools Trust took part in a five week programming course run by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekykids.co.uk\/\">Geeky Kids<\/a><\/strong> on Saturday mornings a<span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted3\">s part of our innovative Mulberry STEM Academy programme<\/span>. During the course, t<\/span><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0 x_x_ContentPasted1\">he students were split into groups to learn Python programming. GCSE students already taking Computer Science challenged themselves through learning new skills, including\u00a0an intermediate popular library called Pygame<\/span>. Other students learned the basics of Python, including selection and iteration.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\"><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0\" style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0\">At the end of the course, students all created a trivia quiz in Python. We were very impressed with their use of functions, lists, dictionaries and other advanced techniques! A particular well done to<\/span><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0Tonima Hawlader, Mulberry Academy Shoreditch, Jannah Ahmed, Mulberry School for Girls and Riyad Choudhury, Mulberry Stepney Green,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0\">whose thoughtful programs were awarded the best on the course. Each week, two students were also chosen as <\/span><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0\">\u2018Students of the Week\u2019<\/span><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0\"> by their tutors. Well done to Zakariya, Ifaz, Zakiyyah, Jannah, Basit, Ismail, Tanim and Ehsanur for their hard work.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\"><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0 x_x_ContentPasted2\" style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0 x_x_ContentPasted2\">We look forward to our continued work with Geeky Kids which offers our students <\/span><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0 x_x_ContentPasted2\">creative ways to enjoy Computer Science. <span
